In addition to all the acitivities offered at Camp California in 2009, we are pleased to offer the new and improved programs for this summer!
Sailing Camp
Last years Teen Sailing Program was such a huge success, we’ve expanded the program! Our first week will be in Pakostane, in Dalmatia, learning the fundamentals of sailing. There is no better way to do this than to start small. We learn to sail on single hull Hobies Optimists and 412s as well as basic seamanship, knots and wind theory. Our second week we take our new skills to the open sea where we will spend 7 days on larger open water boats. We cruise the Croatian coast and it’s many islands and inlets under the supervision of a professional skipper. After your two week experience you have the opportunity walk away with a sailing certificate.
Our 2 week teen adventure program
This program (for 14-17 year olds) will include new exciting activities and destinations around Croatia. In addition to our traditional Teen Adventure Program, T2 (New from summer 2007!) will give campers an opportunity to visit new and exciting parts of this beautiful country! Our two-week outdoor wilderness adventure programs includes mountain biking, backpacking, canoeing/whitewater rafting/kayaking, caving, orienteering, camping, outdoor cooking and leadership training. There are limited spaces available for this 2 week adventure. Click here for more information about this exciting new program. Click here to register.
Expanded Performing Arts Department
Take part in our acclaimed theater productions, either as one of the stars of the show, or assisting with the technical support backstage. With our upgraded sound and lighting, productions will be even better than you remember them. We’ve also upgraded our computers and software for both digital photography and video production.
Ceramics Program
Summer 2006 we offered pottery for the first time at Camp California. This summer we have even more exciting and sophisticated projects to bring home after camp and use around the house or give as gifts to family and friends!
Expanded CIT (Counselor in Training) Program
Do you want to learn what it takes to be a camp counselor at camp? For campers 15 years of age and up, our CIT program will give you the life skills and leadership experience you need to work and play at Camp California one day, as a counselor. Planning evening program, cabin responsibility and a chance to help teach activities are all a part of this dynamic program.
Counselor in Training Program (CIT)
Applicants (15-18 year olds) to the CIT program should have already participated in Camp California as a camper (Regular or Teen Program) for at least 1 year.
First Year - CILT “Camper in Leadership Training”
15 years of age. 1 hour a day during the activity day is a “Leadership” period. This is devoted to learning to work with kids and helping to plan one evening activity during the session and one “Day Event” for the session they’re at camp. They will have 5 other periods a day that are normal activity schedule, but we will have the staff work with them so they are learning to teach the activities. They will be living in the oldest cabins at camp but Friday or Saturday night they will move in with younger cabins and help look after the kids.
Second Year - CIT “Counselor in Training”
Must have completed the CILT Program and at least 16 years of age. CITs will not be living in the oldest cabins but living in two of the younger cabins as a helper. Week one in one cabin and week two in a different cabin. CITs can pick one or two activities that will be their specialty activities. They will also be scheduled for other activities that they will learn more about, and could help teach at camp in the future. They will get one evening out of camp each week with the CIT Director.
Third Year - JC “Junior Counselor”
Must have completed the CILT and CIT programs. Must be 17 years of age. These are exceptional kids and will be used as “relief counselors” for staff. We will also schedule them as “assistant instructors” in the activities they have the most experience. They will get 24 hours off each week with the CIT Director.
After a Junior Counselor completes their last summer of the CIT Program, they are eligible to apply to the other CCUSA programs in their home country. Or they can continue to work at Camp California!
Other programs/activities that the CIT participants (CILTs, CITs, and JCs) will all help with include: BBQ on Friday night, Final Dinner, equipment set up and breakdown at the waterfront, ropes, arts and crafts, lifeguarding. Help in the camp store, laundry, office and kitchen if and when needed.
