CAMP CALIFORNIA TEAM
Each summer Camp California brings together a wonderful team of counselors and staff to give your child the best possible summer camp experience. The majority of our cabin counselors are Native English Speaking from the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Many of our counselors and staff are also fluent in: Croatian, Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Russian and Spanish. Our counselors are also highly skilled and experienced in the many activities we offer at Camp California as well as previous experience in youth development and supervision.
David is from Sherborne, England. This will be David’s 5th summer at Camp California and he’s looking forward to being one of our Program Directors. David has previously worked as a teaching assistant/ learning supporter at schools for children with emotional and physical needs in the UK. On his travels, David has also been an ESL teacher at language schools in Mexico and Spain and counselor/specialist at camps in the US , France and Thailand. His hobbies include travelling, music, yoga and water sports. In the UK, David worked as an outdoor instructor for three years where he taught climbing, archery, canoeing and kayaking. Since being a counsellor at Camp California, he’s also learned to teach paddleboard and POI spinning. Most recently he has been working as an online English Teacher but can’t wait to get back outdoors and sing some camp songs!
Pat is from Kelowna, British Columbia, and he is back for his sixth summer at Camp California! Pat grew up on a mountain in a small ski community, and he traveled to school by biking, sledding, or skiing. He enjoys all water activities, most especially sailing and swimming, and he also loves history and theatre. At camp, Pat is the Waterfront Director, and he spends his days making sure everyone has a fun and safe time on the Adriatic.
Ryan comes to us from Cornwall, England. He is returning for his third summer at Camp California. Ryan was Head of Sports in his first summer and Head of Boys in his second. He's excited to return as one of our Program Directors this summer! Previously, Ryan has worked in an international sports camp in America for two summers. He also completed an outdoor education course in college and continued through to complete a sport science degree at Cardiff University. For his current job back in England he works with students on a one to one basis to secure a placement back into education. Through his gap year at university he spent a year in New Zealand traveling both the north and south island. He is looking forward to another action packed summer helping campers create lifelong memories.
Veronika comes from Slovenia and is super excited to spend her 4th summer as our amazing Camp Mom! In past years she worked as a couselor in a summer camp for people with special needs in Chicago. In camp she enjoys making friendship bracelets and floating around with the synchronized swimming class. When not at camp you can find her reading a book or taking a walk in nature. Veronika is currently working as a High School Counselor in her home town, and will be continuing her studies as an Inclusive Teacher.
Louie is from Edinburgh, Scotland. This will be his 3rd year at summer camp and first time at Camp California. Louie has previously worked as a waterfront counsellor in Texas, USA for two summers. He travels frequently and enjoys learning about different cultures. His interests include surfing, sailing, Muay Thai and many more sports. At camp this summer Louie will be working at our waterfront as a sailing instructor.
Ellen is from Kent in England and coming back for her second summer at Camp California as Head of Girls. After graduating from the University of Exeter, Ellen has worked at various children’s camps in the US, the UK and now Croatia! She loves all the things to do with swimming and sport at camp! This year, Ellen has been working in Madrid as a Translator and English Teacher as well as doing some sailing in the Adriatic! She loves travelling and speaking Spanish. Ellen’s passions include swimming, triathlon and waterpolo. Ellen can’t wait to spend another summer at Camp California!
Odhran is from a small seaside town on the west coast of Ireland. This will be Odhran’s second summer working at Camp California. He is currently in his final year in becoming a Science Teacher. Over his years of schooling he has raced competitively on both track and cross country, whilst also tackling the elements of nature from rock climbing to surfing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Odhran is an enthusiastic and energetic character. He is counting down the days to get back on stage for lip sync and cannot wait to spend another summer meeting new and returning campers!
Marco is from Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire, England and is returning for a sixth summer at Camp Cal and another leading the Teen Adventure program. In previous summers, Marco has also been a cabin counselor; older boys unit leader; head boys counselor; and head of sports and ropes. He is happiest when spending time outdoors and especially loves mountain biking, hiking, wild camping and football (soccer). He is also a British Cycling mountain bike guide; former learning support assistant, for secondary school children with special educational needs; and a graduate of Leeds Beckett University, where he studied Physical and Outdoor Education. Marco has worked and travelled around Europe, as well as in China and the US, but nowhere compares to Croatia and Camp California, and he cannot wait to spend another amazing summer with you all!
Emily joins us from England for her second summer at Camp Cal! She loves to travel and creates positive, high energy environments at camp! Emily is a recent graduate, excited to begin pursuing her PhD. She loves the variety of activities at camp and is particularly proud when watching her campers perform gymnastics routines on stage. She can't wait to spend another adventure-filled summer in paradise!
Jenny is joining Camp California for her first summer as camp photographer. She is from Cavan in Ireland and is super excited to spend her summer making new friends and snapping lots of fun shots by the Adriatic Sea. Jenny is currently going into her final year of studying Graphic Design. In her free time, she loves arts and crafts, playing Gaelic football and spending time with friends. She has 3 years of experience working at summer camps in Ireland and feels this summer at Camp California will definitely be one to remember!
Charlie is a Master’s student in Leeds, England. He loves staying active at camp, whether it’s leading activities, preparing skits or playing games with his cabin. Charlie loves to see his campers gain confidence whilst at camp. He can’t wait to return for his second summer at Camp Cal!
Annie comes from Chicago in the United States and is so excited to return to Camp California for her second summer. She is a graduate from the University of Illinois and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in school counseling. In her free time, she loves to travel and spend time outdoors. Annie is looking forward to spending her time at camp teaching paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, and playing sports. She cannot wait to meet the campers have another fantastic summer on the Adriatic!
Caillin is from Georgia in the USA and is returning as a cabin counselor for her second summer. She is most happy when she is sailing or playing some fun music. Caillin has sailed around the US, Europe, and Caribbean Islands and loves sharing her passion for the activity. She graduated from Belmont University, where she studied Music and has loved teaching music around the US and Southeast Asia. She cannot wait to spend another summer making memories in paradise!
Julia comes to us from Poland and is excited to spend her first summer at Camp California. She is currently studying Mathematics at University of Bath. In her free time, Julia focuses on her biggest passion which is jazz dance. She's looking forward to spending time at our waterfront teaching windsurfing, sailing, and lots more. Julia can't wait to meet all of the campers and spend an amazing summer in Croatia!
Mike comes to us from Arkansas, United States. He graduated from university in 2016 with a degree in political science and criminology. In his free time, Mike likes to hike, camp, kayak, and just about anything outdoors. He is incredibly excited to return to Camp California for a second time to do Teen Adventure. He can't wait to get back to the beautiful Croatian coast!
Kate will be joining camp for the first time this summer. She is from Cork in the south of Ireland. She is in her final year of college, studying Early Years and Childhood Studies. Kate has been a qualified sailing instructor for the past five years. She cannot wait to introduce sailing to the campers and make memories on the Adriatic! Kate also has a great interest in Arts and Crafts, Tennis, Kayaking, and Hiking. Kate is a positive and energetic individual who is eager to create a fun and adventure-filled summer for the campers!
Grace is joining us for her second summer at Camp Cal! She is from Newcastle, England and attends University in Manchester. You’ll find Grace at the ropes course, trying her hand at poi or playing sports. Grace absolutely loves to hype her campers up as much as possible and will always puts her heart and soul into lip sync! She can’t wait to return for another amazing summer.
Ciaran joins us from Ireland for his first summer at Camp Cal. He has a degree in Creative Design and for the last two years has been working as a designer. He's excited to take a break from the design world and experience new adventures at camp!
Neamh is joining us from Galway in Ireland. She will be back at Camp California for a second summer! This is Neamh’s third summer working as a camp counsellor. She is heading into her final year at University, since spending various summers at camp she hopes to become a teacher.
Neamh loves all forms of outdoor activities and is excited to be back teaching wind surfing, kayaking and high ropes. Neamh loves helping campers have lots of fun and gain confidence in various activities at camp. She is so excited to spend another summer in paradise and meet all the campers.
Shannon is from a small town in the heart of Ireland and is delighted to be returning for her 2nd summer at Camp Cal. She loves to travel and is happiest when outdoors and at Sea. Having recently graduated as a Primary School Teacher from the University of Limerick, Shannon aims to teach around the world. She has previously worked as a water sports instructor in Ireland and in Connecticut, USA. At camp, Shannon loves to spend time Sailing as well as participating in a variety of other activities. She is so excited to meet the returning and new campers!!
Molly is an Exeter University graduate, living in North Wales. It is her first summer at Camp California but she has spent the last 3 summers working at Football and Tennis camps around England. Watching campers try new sports and making friends from around the world is what brings her back to camps every summer. Molly loves all things sports; especially running, swimming and cycling!
Jan comes to us from the Czech Republic. He loves travelling, especially when it involves getting to know other people and their culture and traditions. This will be his third summer at Camp California and he comes back more and more thrilled every year! He studies hard during his off-camp life, as he is training to become a doctor at a university in Prague. That´s why he can´t wait to let his inner child out and have fun with campers in his tennis class, camp cal band or volleyball!
Mattea's excitement for her second year at Camp California can be felt all the way from Rijeka, her hometown, to Pakoštane! She graduated in 2017 with a degree in Early and Preschool Education and has been working as a preschool teacher ever since. She is also about to become certified TEFL teacher. Her love and passion for working with the youngest ones brought her all the way to the United States where she worked at summer camp, gaining valuable experience. Besides being a teacher, Mattea likes to say she is a traveler too. So far she has created memories in 25 different countries and she is just getting started!
Maria is from Galway, Ireland. This will be her first summer at Camp California. She recently graduated as a Primary School Teacher and has a passion for teaching and learning new skills! In her free time she enjoys spending time with friends, visiting new places and doing arts and crafts. Maria is very excited to meet all of the campers and for the exciting summer that is to come!
Will comes from Liverpool in England and will be joining us at Camp Cal for his first summer! Will is studying Zoology in Liverpool and hopes to go into the field of genetic research and tropical Medicine with Animals. In his free time, Will loves horse riding, swimming and fishing. Will has previously worked on a summer camp in the US, and is so excited to join the Camp Cal family this summer and to make memories that last a lifetime!
Siena is a Zoology student in Wales and will be returning for her second summer in the Camp Cal family. She loves being active out in nature, so enjoys all camp activities especially gymnastics and wilderness survival. Siena loves building relationships with girls in her cabin and the rest of the campers, she can’t wait to see all the new (and old) faces this summer.
Emily is from Waterford, Ireland. This will be her first summer at Camp Cal. She has previously worked at a summer camp in the United States. Emily has just finished her degree to become a primary school teacher. In her free time she loves to travel and play all sports, especially basketball and Gaelic football. Emily loves being outdoors and can’t wait for all the new adventures camp will bring. She is looking forward to getting involved in a variety of activities at camp. She is so excited to meet everyone for a great summer!
Lucy will be joining us for a second summer at Camp California! This will be her fourth year working as a camp counsellor and she is ecstatic to come back. She has recently studied a postgraduate in her hometown Cardiff and is a newly qualified teacher. Lucy oozes creativity and is no stranger to the stage. She is often teaching arts and crafts, drama, videography and dance.
Niall is joining us for a second summer at Camp Cal. He is from Dublin and is currently in University studying Finance. Niall has a passion for all activities outdoors, from Gaelic football and Hurling, to water sports such as windsurfing and paddle boarding. He has experience working at water sports camps in Ireland and also tutors many students in Maths, Irish and French. Niall can’t wait to welcome all campers and have an amazing summer!
This will be David’s first summer at Camp California and he is coming to us from Wales! David is a fun, energetic guy who brings lots of fun and laughter wherever he goes! He spent one summer at a camp in the US where he enjoyed leading tennis and paint balling activities. When he isn’t working, David enjoys playing rugby, running and playing tennis with friends. David cannot wait to join us this summer and make more life long memories!
This will be Lauryn’s first summer joining us here at Camp Cal. Lauryn resides in the South-West of Ireland in Cork and is currently studying to become a primary school teacher. Lauryn's hobbies include dance, drama, gymnastics and anything that involves an adventure. She is a passionate gymnast and gymnastics coach and has over 5 years experience working with children of all ages. She cannot wait to both teach and learn new skills from her fellow counsellors and campers. Lauryn also loves travelling and has previously travelled to Croatia. She is ecstatic to return there and spend her summer in the sun, surrounded by wonderful people.
Éabha is from a small coastal village in the south east of Ireland. This will be Éabha's first summer at Camp California. She is currently studying zoology but has plenty of experience working in this environment as she has spent the last 5 summers working in one of the best outdoor pursuits centers in Ireland. Growing up she was a competitive swimmer and surf lifesaver. Now as a lifeguard, she uses these skills to encourage campers to be confident and safe in all water-based activities. The best summer ever is pending and Éabha is so excited to meet all the campers and get involved.
Erin is from Toronto Canada and this will be her first summer at Camp California! Previously she worked as a Youth Activities Counsellor with Disney Cruiseline on the Disney Wonder. She has worked summer camps in Canada for 6 years but never in a place as beautiful as Camp California! She's excited to create lifelong memories with the campers and fellow staff, and ready for fun in the sun on the Adriatic!
Harvey will be joining us for the first time this summer. He comes to us from Leeds, where he is in university studying neuroscience. Harvey loves being outdoors and enjoys keeping active by running and playing cricket. He can’t wait to make memories with the campers and have the summer of a lifetime!
Craig is from South-West Wales, UK. This will be his first summer at Camp California and he can't wait to get started!
For many years, Craig has worked in social care, providing care and support to individuals with mental health problems and learning disabilities.
He also has years of experience working as a volunteer and facilitator for a mixed-ability rugby team. Craig is very excited to work with our campers in a host of fun athletic activities and much more!
Morgan joins us from Scotland for his first summer at Camp Cal. He has previously worked at camp in the US, but will be joining us this summer for a new adventure. He has just graduated from the University of St Andrews with a degree in Biology and Geography. In his spare time he loves to travel with camp friends all over the world, swim in the North Sea and keep up to date with politics. He is so excited for this summer and cannot wait to swim in the Adriatic sea!
James is from Harrogate, England and is looking forward to his first Summer at Camp Cal! He loves the outdoors and when he is not studying at University, he loves playing rugby, biking, and going to the gym. James has previously spent a Winter Season in the French Alps working with children and can't wait to make more memories at camp!
